Our Team
I’m currently on a journey to earn my PhD in psychology, building on over 14 years of experience in helping others. I started out as an emergency nurse, but I soon discovered my true passion for supporting mental and emotional well-being. Originally from New Zealand, I embrace my bicultural roots, blending both my NZ European and Māori heritage. This background really shapes my approach to therapy, especially with my training in bicultural psychology, which lets me take a holistic view.
For the past four years, I’ve focused on trauma, specifically attachment, relational, and complex trauma, helping individuals and couples navigate the tricky waters of relationship issues. When it comes to complex trauma, I work with clients to uncover and process deep-rooted experiences that may affect their sense of safety and connection. My goal is to help clients develop coping skills to manage tough thoughts and feelings, while fostering greater awareness of the present moment. Together, we can work towards your goals and values, transforming your story from one of struggle into one of resilience.
When I work with couples, I prioritize enhancing communication and building deeper connections. Using attachment theory and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), I guide partners to break free from negative patterns and create more intimacy.
I blend neuroscience with various therapeutic theories and incorporate somatic practices to create a well-rounded approach. I use a person-centered method to facilitate self-discovery, drawing from techniques like CBT, DBT, ACT, EFT, IFS, and EMDR. Each method is tailored to meet the unique needs of my clients, ensuring they feel heard, valued, and supported throughout their journey.
When I’m not working, I enjoy getting outside, skiing and snowboarding in the backcountry, sledding, mountain biking, surfing, and playing the guitar.
After working as an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) and firefighter for over a decade, I have developed an appreciation for human resilience and the importance of mental health support. Throughout my career in emergency services, I found that people often felt comfortable opening up to me about their mental health concerns.
I have been told by many people, they find me easy to talk to and relate, particularly those who might otherwise hesitate to pursue therapy. Recognizing a significant gap in mental health services, especially the unique barriers men face when seeking support, has led me to work in this field and help others navigate their challenges.
I enjoy addressing a diverse range of challenges, with specific interests in ADHD, dyslexia, and supporting first responders. I also like helping individuals enhance their relationships, whether with friends, family, or partners. Additionally, I enjoy guiding clients through life transitions, empowering them to navigate change and achieve their goals.
I primarily utilize a person-centered approach in my practice, tailoring each session to meet the individual needs of my clients. I also incorporate elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and narrative therapy, along with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for those who have experienced trauma.
Outside of my counselling work, I enjoy spending time in the outdoors mountain biking, sledding, skiing, 4x4ing, and camping. Additionally, I run an off-road vehicle fabrication business.
I look forward to working together to overcome the challenges you face.
